Irrigation System FAQ's
Frequently asked questions about our new Irrigation Systems
Will an automatic sprinkler system use more water than I am currently using?
No. -- In fact, an automatic sprinkler system may actually save you water. A well designed, efficient irrigation system applies exactly the amount of water needed by your landscape. You will never again have to worry about wasting water if you forget to turn off the hose.
Why do I have to have a back flow device and does my installation contractor have to be licensed?
Irrigation systems, as most are connected to your city water supply must meet local codes regarding backflow devices. These devices prevent water from being siphoned back into the water supply. The type of device required and the necessary building permits licenses and certifications required by contractors vary for city to city.
How can I tell if I have enough water pressure to have a sprinkler system installed?
Our technicians will do a pressure test and design your system to insure your sprinklers will operate at the optimal pressure effectiveness. Should a larger water meter or pump be required, we will advise you ahead of time about the specific details involving them.
How much time do I run my sprinklers to water my lawn effectively?
Our technicians will set the time on each zone according to your soil and site conditions after installation. Typically, rotary heads in full sun should run between 30-45 minutes per zone. Spray zones for lawn and shrub can vary, but a 10-15 minute run time would be average. During warmer weather, all new controllers have a seasonal percentage button to increase the time without changing the entire program individually.
Landscape FAQ's
Frequently asked questions about our landscape designs & installations
What time of year should we have our landscape installed?
A. Our “work season” for landscaping projects runs from mid-March until early December, weather permitting.
We really want our landscape! How soon can you be here?
Sergio's Landscape & Irrigation is a small company and we place a high value on personal customer service. As such, we may be booked weeks or months ahead. We will provide a tentative start and completion date for projects, weather permitting. If you are preparing for a special event (graduation open house, etc.) please try to provide at least 2 – 4 weeks lead time.
Is there a fee for the initial consultation?
We do not charge for the initial site visit. This is your opportunity to share your ideas and excitement with us about what you envision for your landscape project and to learn more about our company.
If I already know what I want, why do I need a design?
Creating lasting, pleasing landscape projects is more than digging holes and stacking block. Every site has its own unique set of issues that need to be addressed. Solar orientation, drainage, grading, utilities, and many other site conditions can have a dramatic impact on whether or not your finished project will stand the test of time and function as intended. In the course of preparing your design, we record and analyze all the issues that might affect the project. With this information, we can then create a design that, in the end, saves you money because we address these issues before the project begins.
